Register a .CO Domain

.co is Colombia's country extension, marketed globally as shorthand for "company", and it has been used that way successfully by startups for fifteen years. It is short, it is pronounceable, and clean names are still available under it.

Its strength and its weakness are the same fact: it is .com minus one letter. That makes it memorable and it makes it leaky. A meaningful share of visitors will type .com out of habit, and if a competitor owns that name, you have handed them traffic you paid to create.

The rule of thumb is simple. Register .co when you can also hold the matching .com, or when the .com is owned by somebody in a completely unrelated business. If the .com belongs to a rival, choose a different extension — for an Indian audience, .in costs a quarter as much and leaks nothing.
