.in is India's country-code extension, run by the National Internet Exchange of India, and it is the single most useful domain a business trading inside India can own. It says where you are before anyone reads a word of your page, and because far fewer names are registered under .in than under .com, the version of your trade name you actually want is often still free.

That availability is the real argument. A Coimbatore textile exporter who finds rameshtextiles.com was taken in 2004 by somebody in Ohio will usually find rameshtextiles.in sitting there unregistered. You get the exact-match name instead of a compromise with hyphens and numbers in it, and exact-match names are easier to say on the phone, print on a board and remember a week later.

There are no residency documents to file and no waiting period. You do not need to be an Indian citizen or hold a GST registration to register one. Type the name, pay, and it is live in about a minute.

Who .in is right for

Choose .in if your customers are in India and your ambitions are national rather than global — retailers, manufacturers, exporters selling domestically, clinics, schools, coaching centres, professional practices and any business whose name is already taken in .com.

What .in costs over time

Registration is ₹499 and renewal is ₹599 a year, both including 18% GST. Over two years that is ₹1,099, and over five years ₹2,897.

We print the second number because it is the one that decides whether an extension is cheap. Full comparison on the 2026 domain price list.

Frequently asked

.in questions

Is a .in domain good for SEO in India?
Yes. Google treats .in as a country-code extension geotargeted to India, which is a genuine advantage for searches made inside the country. It will not help you rank in the United States, but for a business selling in India that is not a cost.
Do I need documents or an Indian address to register a .in?
No. Unlike some country extensions, .in is open to anyone with no residency or documentation requirement. Registration completes instantly.
What is the difference between .in and .co.in?
.in is the top-level Indian extension and is open to everybody. .co.in is a commercial sub-level intended for companies. .in is shorter and more recognisable; .co.in is a reasonable fallback when the .in is gone.
How much does a .in cost to renew?
₹599 including GST, printed next to the registration price on every page of this site. Your second year will not cost triple your first.
Can I register a .in for more than one year?
Yes, up to ten years in a single payment. Longer registrations remove the annual renewal risk entirely and are what we recommend for a name your business depends on.
