Domain Registration Cost in India in 2026

The advertised price is rarely the price. Here is what each extension costs over two years, with GST, and why the cheapest first year is usually the most expensive choice.

Ask what a domain costs in India and you will get a number between ₹99 and ₹4,000. Both are true and neither is useful, because the advertised figure is almost always a first-year promotion. The number that matters is what you pay over the time you actually keep the name.

Our prices, including GST

All figures include 18% GST. Full details on the domain price list.

ExtensionRegisterRenewTwo-year cost
.in₹499₹599₹1,098
.co.in₹799₹899₹1,698
.com₹999₹1,199₹2,198
.org₹1,099₹1,299₹2,398
.net₹1,199₹1,399₹2,598

.online₹299₹1,899₹2,198
.store₹449₹2,300₹2,749

Read that table again

Notice what happens between column two and column four. .store is the cheapest extension in the table to register and the most expensive to own. .in is the second-cheapest to register and by a distance the cheapest to keep.

This is not unique to us — it is how the registries price these extensions, and every registrar pays roughly the same wholesale rates. The difference between registrars is whether they show you the renewal before you buy or after.

The five-year view

Most businesses keep their domain far longer than two years. Over five:

  • .in — ₹499 + (4 × ₹599) = ₹2,895
  • .com — ₹999 + (4 × ₹1,199) = ₹5,795
  • .online — ₹299 + (4 × ₹1,899) = ₹7,895
  • .store — ₹449 + (4 × ₹2,300) = ₹9,649

The extension advertised at ₹299 costs nearly three times the one advertised at ₹499. That is the whole point of this article.

What about the ₹99 and ₹149 offers?

They are real, and they are almost always bundled or promotional. Common structures:

  • First year only. Renewal at full registry rate, often 10× the offer.
  • Free with hosting. Genuinely free while you keep paying for hosting; the domain is often held in the host's account, which makes leaving harder.
  • Multi-year required. The ₹99 applies only if you buy several years at full price.

None of these is dishonest in itself. They become a problem when the renewal figure is not visible at the moment of purchase, which is why we print it everywhere.

Does GST apply to domain registration?

Yes — 18%, and it is included in every price we quote. If you have a GSTIN you can generally claim it as input credit, provided the invoice carries your GST number. Enter it at checkout and it is printed automatically. Full detail in GST on domain registration.

What else might you pay for?

At many registrars, quite a lot. WHOIS privacy, DNS management, email forwarding, transfer lock and theft protection are all commonly sold as add-ons at ₹199–₹499 each — which can double the real cost of a cheap domain.

We include all of them. Not as a promotion: they cost us essentially nothing to provide and charging for them is a way of advertising a price you do not intend to honour.

What should you actually budget?

For a small Indian business: ₹500–₹1,000 a year for the domain, or ₹1,500 if you sensibly hold both the .in and the .com. Add roughly ₹1,000 a year if you want hosting and email on it — our bundle is ₹999 for the first year and ₹1,899 after.

That is the whole cost of having your own address on the internet. It is less than one month of a mobile plan.

FAQ

Quick answers

How much does a domain cost in India per year?
A .in is ₹499 in the first year and ₹599 to renew, including GST. A .com is ₹999 and ₹1,199. Newer extensions advertise lower first years but renew considerably higher.
Why is the renewal price higher than the registration price?
First-year prices are often registry-funded promotions to drive adoption. The renewal is the standard rate. The gap can be ten times on some extensions.
Is GST charged on domain registration in India?
Yes, 18%. Our quoted prices include it, and the invoice carries your GSTIN if you supply it, so you can claim input credit.
What is the cheapest domain to own long term?
.in, at ₹599 a year to renew. Extensions with lower first-year prices almost always cost more over any period beyond twelve months.
